Süskind’s novel was published in 1985 .This one of the most conic images used in Perfumes book covers shows a detail from a painting Nymphe and Satyr or Jupiter and Atiope (1714). The first edition also includes details on the boards from Michel Etienne Turgot’s Plan de Paris of 1739.
This is the full image used and this could modernised: The image is dark and voyeur. The image is used a lot but in different ways like cropping.
The border makes it more modern and a good use of typography but why does all these image not have the man?
